Monique Elgin

Mijn naam is Monique Elgin.
In 1993 studeerde ik af aan de Amsterdamse balletacademie van Lucia Marthas (nu bekend als Institute for Performing Arts) in de richting uitvoerend danser en docent. Tijdens en na mijn opleiding danste ik mee in vele theater en televisieshows en gaf op vrije momenten ook les.
In 1997 deed zich de kans voor om de studio in Heiloo over te nemen. Al snel was de balletschool een begrip in Heiloo en omstreken. De huiselijke en ongedwongen sfeer zorgt er al snel voor dat je je thuis voelt.

De persoonlijke aandacht en de creativiteit binnen de lessen, zorgt ervoor dat je geen les wil missen.

The dance styles of wacking, hip-hop, and modern contemporary are my specialties. The basic techniques of these various dance styles are fundamental. That’s why the choreographies are often combined. Not only for fun, but also to foster body awareness.

“Dance is for everyone and it’s always educational.” The lessons aren’t just about dancing; there’s definitely also laughter. The class consists of a warm-up, a choreography piece, and concludes with a cool-down.

Tuesday ADV – classical – Wednesday toddler dance

Opgegroeid in Heiloo kwam ik in mijn tienerjaren bij het toen net opgestarte jeugdtheater.
Daar kwam ik ook in aanraking met dans. Al snel ontdekte ik dat ik daar beter in wilde worden. Naast mijn studie aan de Pabo in Amsterdam, volgde ik elke vrij minuut danslessen.

Na een periode in het onderwijs gewerkt te hebben, besloot ik toch mijn danshart te volgen en ging in Arnhem aan de Hogeschool voor de Kunsten (nu Artez) studeren. Na 4 jaar studeerde ik af in de vakken Klassiek ballet, moderne dans en Flamencodans.

Mijn lessen kun je volgen op dinsdag en woensdag.

I had met my husband by then and returned to Heiloo for him. In 2002, I ran into Monique on the street in front of the studio and asked her if she was looking for a teacher. That’s how I started teaching flamenco at Dance & Fitstudio 115. Later, I also started teaching classical ballet, then a little later, preschool dance (ADV), and, as an experiment, toddler dance.

I love seeing the children dance and enjoy music they might not normally put on themselves. I also appreciate the positive atmosphere in the lessons; the students make new friends and feel free to express themselves.

I find the combination of teaching dance (both in the studio and at schools) and being in the classroom ideal. Dancing to music is so good for the brain and motor skills. I think every child deserves a dance lesson.

Thursday ADV – hip hop - acro dance

Nena Desserjer,

Ik kom uit Alkmaar en begon al op 6 jarige leeftijd met turnen op hoog niveau. Ik ben daarna lessen gaan volgen in Heiloo bij Dance & Fitstudio115.

Na de middelbare school ben ik op het ROC met een dansopleiding begonnen op MBO niveau. Later studeerde ik op Hbo niveau af bij Dansacademie Fontys in Tilburg als uitvoerend danseres en dansdocent. Ik danste niet alleen voor de opening van de Levi’s show, maar ook voor het koningshuis op het Koningsconcert onder leiding van choreograaf Ed Wubbe ( Scapino Ballet). Daarnaast deed ik vele reclame shoots en andere commerciële opdrachten.

I’ve had the opportunity to do many wonderful things as a performing dancer, such as: Opening Levi’s show, dancing for the Royal Family at the King’s Concert with Ed Wubbe (choreographer Scapino Ballet), commercial shoots, and many other assignments in the theater and commercial field.

I teach preschool dance, hip-hop, and acro dance (a combination of gymnastics and dance). I really enjoy teaching and ensure students are challenged enough to learn new things and develop further.
